Major in Molecular Biology, William Jewell College
Being an immigrant gave me the vision to see all that is free and great in this country, and the insight to realize that courage is all that is needed to grasp on to them. Being the daughter of parents who never had the opportunity to go to college and the child of a country that was plagued with unfulfilled dreams, at the age of eleven, I saw the world not through the eyes of a child, but through the realization that opportunities were not freely given, but fought for, and therefore should never be taken for granted. I grasped onto the chance to be educated with the hope of fulfilling not only my dream, but also my parents’, and the children’s whose chance will never arrive.
As of right now, I am an Honors Oxbridge Molecular Biology major at William Jewell College, studying abroad at Cambridge University, England. I plan to practice medicine some day and be able to give back to the underprivileged a segment of what God has chosen to give me. I have been able to attend Jewell solely on grants and scholarships; without them, I would never have been able to afford to go. I love Jewell for the attentiveness of the faculties to their student, for its honest aspiration to continually pushing its students to their highest potentials, and for it being my home; I hope every one will be able to have the same experience, and that money will never have to be a factor in determining whether a student deserves to have this kind of education or not.
For the past nine years, I believe I have been faithful to the commitment to grow, the courage to believe, and the strength to grasp onto the opportunities that has been offered to me. However, without the financial support, my effort alone will not be enough. I hope the Access Missouri grant will continue to help fund my education.
